Sakuraen tea shop sells a variety of loose leaf Japanese teas all of which come from Fujieda-Shi in Shizuoka Prefecture. All orders of our loose tea leaves are prepared, weighed, packaged and sealed by hand at the time each order is received. Since Sakuraen receives shipments of loose tea leaves several times a month, they are always the freshest available at any given time of the year. (Even in the spring time when the teas are "first flush" there is no change in price). Japanese Green Tea Shop customers are sent the exact same teas, and are given the same fine customer service as Sakuraen's "walk in" customers.

Tokujyo Sencha
Item:Tokujyo Sencha Green Tea
Description: Our private reserve grade Tokujyo Sencha Tea. Tokujyo Sencha has a rich green color and a slightly bitter and astringent taste which makes it the perfect tea for serving with Japanese sweets. It is a delicate tea and should be brewed at around 80 degrees celsius (about 176 Fahrenheit).
Sencha
Item:Sencha Green Tea
Description: Sencha is the most popular tea in Japan, (accounts for about 80% of all tea produced here). Sencha is grown in full sunlight and has a slightly yellowish color. Our Sencha is rich in catechin (a healthy and beneficial nutrient), has a gentle astringent taste and wonderfully fresh aroma.
Mecha

Description: Our Mecha or Bud Tea is made from leaf buds and tips of early crops. This aromatic tea has a soft green appearance and sharp distinctive flavor. The considerably astringent and slightly bitter aftertaste makes Mecha the perfect tea to serve after meals to cleanse the palate.
Konacha
Item:Konacha Green Tea Description: Konacha or "powdered tea" has a rich green color, very pleasant aroma and a light flavor. Our Konacha is made from the finely cut remains of our High Quality Sencha and Gyokuro tea leaves.
Kukicha
Item:Kukicha Green Tea
Description: Kukicha also known as "twig tea" is made from the stems and stalks of the tea plant. They are pruned, dried, aged and then gently roasted. Much less astringent than other green teas, it has a pleasantly rich, nutty and roasted flavor. Our High Quality Kukicha is a refreshing and healthy tea to be enjoyed anytime.
Houjicha
Item:Houjicha Green Tea
Description: Houjicha tea leaves are pan roasted over high heat . This process removes almost all of the caffeine but remains high in beneficial Catechin. Houjicha is slightly reddish but brews to a brownish color. Our Houjicha has a savory, refreshing, roasted taste with virtually no bitterness.
Bancha
Item:Bancha Green Tea
Description: Our high quality Bancha has a slightly astringent taste and distinctlively fresh aroma quite similar to sencha green tea. (Since Bancha is basically the same as sencha only made with later more coarse flushes of the tea plant). Our fresh Bancha is a delicious and economical tea to be enjoyed regularly.
Kukicha with Matcha
Item:Kukicha / Matcha Green Tea
Description: Roasted Kukicha with the perfect blend of Matcha. Like our regular Kukicha this blend has a less astringent taste, the added Matcha gives a slightly sweet aftertaste to its already pleasantly rich, nutty and roasted flavor.
Genmaicha with Matcha
Item:Genmaicha/Matcha Green Tea
Description: A very popular green tea in Japan, our Genmaicha is a mellow blend of roasted and puffed brown rice grains and High Quality Sencha with added Matcha tea. (Most Genmaicha is made with only Sencha). The added matcha gives it a brighter green color than regular Genmaicha. The puffed rice adds a delicious popcorn-like taste to this full bodied tea. (One of our best selling teas!)
Gyokurokocha
Item:Gyokuroko Green Tea
Description: Our Gyokuroko is a High Grade tea powder. (The "ko" in Gyokuro-ko is due to the fact that it is powdered.) This powdered Gyokuro has a light green color, unique elegant aroma and a naturally sweet taste. Gyokurokocha tea is also suitable for making "Iced Gyokuro". (Note: Gyokurokocha is very finely cut tea leaves and is intended for standard brewing).
Sencha (Chanoukanoaji)
Item:Sencha Green Tea
Description: Packaged for "Sakuraen Tea Shop" by our supplier. "Cha nouka no aji" (Tea farmer's taste) is a high quality Sencha Japanese green tea which should be brewed at 80 degrees (C) for best taste. (Lower temperature will produce a more "sweet" flavor). Chanoukanoaji green tea comes in a large 180 gram package.
Genmaihoujicha
Item:Genmaicha and Houjicha
Description: Packaged for "Sakuraen Tea Shop" by our supplier. A unique blend of Houjicha and Genmaicha teas which has a smooth and relaxing flavor . (Genmaihoujicha should be brewed with nearly boiling water for about 30 seconds to achieve the best taste). Comes in a large 200 gram package.
