Parcels to the EU from Japan

No Duty Free Status for orders under 150 Euros

The European Parliament and the Council of the EU have decided to abolish the duty-free status for goods imported into the EU with a total value of less than 150 euros, effective July 1, 2026.  (Read about that HERE).

Effective July 24, 2026 Japan Post has SUSPENDED IOSS shipments to the EU. (The IOSS scheme is for businesses like us - Japanese Green Tea Shops - that sell goods to consumers within the EU to pre-pay all Taxes and Duties – “DDP” Delivery Duty Paid, so customers pay no additional fee when parcels are delivered). This is due to ongoing operational disruptions during customs processing of IOSS shipments in the affected countries.

Efective July 24, 2026, parcels "Japanese Green Tea Shops" sends to the EU will be sent via Japan Post as “DDU/DAP” - Delivery Duty Unpaid/Delivered At Place. 

What this means to our EU customers

When we dispatch your parcel from Japan, the parcel will be marked as “DDU/DAP” - Delivery Duty Unpaid/Delivered At Place.  This means that upon receipt of your parcel you will be required to pay extra costs that include import VAT (17–27% depending on the EU member state) and customs clearance/brokerage/carrier fees. In addition, 3 euros for each item in the shipment. (See how that works and which countries are affected HERE). 

Conclusion

We strongly advise our EU customers to check the conditions in your specific country and consider these extra fees before placing an order in our shop.

We have reduced our online shop prices for our EU customers so the  additional fees are no longer included in the product price.  You can still make small to medium sized orders at relatiely low prices (along with "FLAT RATE" or "FREE" shipping), and even with the extra fees charged (now) upon receipt of your parcel, our prices and service remain reasonable.

We understand that these temporary suspensions may cause inconvenience for customers in the affected destinations. We are closely monitoring updates from Japan Post and will continue to adjust our operations as necessary, and post updates as soon as new information becomes available.
